Biographical Sketch: Darren Walker was born in Oakley Kansas but grew up in the small western Iowa town of Exira, where he first developed an interest in singing. He sang along with the record player in his basement as he played his favorite songs by Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Boston, Foreigner, Journey, and as fate would have it Head East.
The summer before his junior year in high school, Darren's family moved to northwestern Missouri where Darren would join his first band a few years later in 1982. He sang lead vocals and played bass guitar until 1988 when he left to join the band Bad Gypsy. He put down his bass guitar and became the band's lead vocalist until the band dissolved 5 years later. Darren went on to join the band Toymaker's Dream who released the CD, "Try Me, I Rock!" in 1998. Shortly thereafter, Darren took a two year break from the music scene until he was asked to join the band London Drive, where he shared lead vocal and bass duties. He also shares these roles in Head East, playing bass guitar on a few songs enabling bassist Greg Manahan to play six-string guitar adding to the versatility of the band.
When Darren's not performing on stage you can find him working on a roof somewhere doing sheetmetal work or working on a car. Darren is a big Pontiac Fiero fan and enjoys working on them with his son. He owns six Fiero's, but jokes that he can only keep two of them running at once. |
