He will be teaching classes in the areas of social justice, public policy and social research. Boyd states that his teaching position should have little or no effect on Head East's ability to tour. They will continue to perform at least 30 plus dates each year, consisting mostly of outdoor concerts in the summer months, as the band has done for the past several years. 2) Tour Dates - updated concert schedule (as of 10 July, 2003)

Please check with each venue before heading to the concert. 3) Never Been Any Reason - Southern Rock Style The band Laidlaw will pay homage to Head East by covering Never Been Any Reason on their upcoming self-titled sophomore effort due out this summer. Laidlaw is a hard rockin' band with a distinctive southern rock flavor. And that southern rock flavor is alive and well in their version of Never Been Any Reason. When asked about his band's version of the Head East anthem, Laidlaw guitarist Craig DeFalco stated, "I've always felt if you cover a song like it was written in the first place, it's just a cover song and you are a cover band. But if you add a little of what you are all about to it, it shows a little class. I love the song in its original form as well, but I like what we did to it also. I hope that hard core Head East fans will see it that way as well. We did it out of respect for a great song!" DeFalco further stated, "Never Been Any Reason has been one of my all time favorite songs since I was really young. I've always wanted to do a version of it. And while we were writing for this new cd, we did a demo version of the track and we were excited about it. Then I called Michael Anthony (Van Halen) and Carol Chase (Lynyrd Skynyrd Honkettes) and asked if they would sing on the track when we were doing the record. I'm really proud of it. I wanted to do it our way without taking too much from the original version. I'm sure Mike Somerville will appreciate the guitar work on it. And I hope that all the guys in Head East like it as much as we do." Laidlaw will be releasing their new self-titled CD on their own label called Yessir Records in mid-August. Dan Kelly talks about his first Head East gig: "Original Head East drummer Steve Huston was at the first Head East show I ever played. That was pretty intimidating to say the least. And, back then, I was still a kid. So when I found out that Steve was there I was out to impress him with every drum chop that I could come up with. I ran all over the music, because the original drummer was there, and he was gonna see for himself that I was a good drummer too!" "That's the mindset that I was under at the time, and it kind of ruined the music. After the show I asked Steve what he thought of my playing. He said something to the effect of, 'you've got the chops alright, you just gotta learn when not to use them'. It hurt my feelings at the time, but it also taught me a lesson for life. I guess you could say that it was the best drum lesson that I ever had. Dan Kelly tells the "Go Irish" story: "Roger Boyd and I have gone round and round, ribbing each other about our favorite college sports teams for just about as long as I've known him. Actually, to this day, he calls me "Irish", and I call him "Illini", because he's a fan of Illinois football and I'm a Notre Dame fan. One day I arrived at a gig a bit early and the only person present affiliated with the band was the tour production manager. When he started getting the Moog ready for the show I came up with a pretty good idea. Knowing that Roger hefted the Moog over his head every time we played Never Been Any Reason, and that fans could see the bottom of the Moog when he did this, I decided to get him THE BEST at this particular show. So I asked the tour production manager rather sheepishly, if I might attend to the Moog for just a few minutes. It didn't really matter what his reply was, because I was going to do it anyway! I found a roll of tape, and wrote a special message on the bottom of the Moog." "The show was somewhere near Chicago, where there are more than a few Notre Dame fans. When the part came in Never Been Any Reason, sure enough, Roger swung the Moog up over his head, and the crowd went wild. Roger unknowingly thought that they were only cheering for his Moog solo (which was impressive), but I think that they were all going wild because I wrote "GO IRISH" on the bottom of the Moog. This is just one of many ways that I spiced things up during my time with Head East." 5) Lyrics - The words to 'Get Up And Enjoy Yourself' from the 1978 release, 'Head East' © 1978 Almo Music Corp. / Zuckschank Music, Inc. (ASCAP)
Get Up And Enjoy Yourself
We'll you say you're out for a good time
Only thing that I'm thinkin' is
Get up, get up, get up
There you are, bottle in hand
Get up, get up, get up
I don't want you sittin' round, wonderin' what's goin' on *** Instrumental break *** There's no time like now to get it up, so -
Get up, get up, get up
*** Chorus repeats numerous times and fades *** 6) Mail - stories and comments from Head East fans. A fan from Minnesota writes - "My friends and I first started analyzing lyrics on camping trips to Rainy Lake (International Falls, MN). We used the back of a twelve pack carton and our boom box and a tradition began! It's island camping, so there's no neighbors to bother. We work on one song per trip usually, because it's pretty hard. This is our (not too early) morning routine. We try to figure out the meaning of the song too. We usually wind up with 2 or 3 theories to debate and laugh about. And some of the lyrics people hear are pretty funny. At the end of the trip, the 12 pack carton with lyrics is awarded to one of us to bring home and hang up. We recently did "Open Up The Door", because it's one of my favorite Head East songs and it came up again when we saw Head East was coming to the Moondance Jam. We'll be working on some songs that are part of the current Head East set list before Moondance, so we'll be tuned up for the concert! This probably all sounds pretty dumb, but we have a good time and some good laughs doing it! Of course we have to drink the beer to get the empty carton first, so that always enhances our lyric deciphering ability!"
