Leader of the Band Notes

( From Roger Boyd )

Hard to believe as we’re sweating-it-out this week, that just 10 days ago we were shivering in cold, water-logged Sandwich, Illinois. On Saturday May 28, Head East played for a small, but dedicated crowd at Mongo’s on Main. Promoter Patrick Mahoney and Mongo’s owner Steve McMichael (of the 1985 Super Bowl XX champion Chicago Bears!) were excited to put on one of their first shows and they refused to let the horrible weather dampen their enthusiasm.

Does the name, Dan Hampton ring a bell? He played defensive end for the 1985 Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears. Dan proved he is a man of many talents jumping on stage to play bass with Head East on Love Me Tonight, which Dan informed the audience, “has always been one of my all-time favorite songs!” Dan went on to proclaim HE as “one of the best bands of all time, I don’t care what anyone says!” And who would ever argue with 6’4” and 260 lb Dan Hampton! (see the picture above of Glen next to Dan---WOW!)

We had a great time on stage and afterwards with Dan, Patrick, Steve and all the fine folks at Mongo’s. And while we were all trying on Super Bowl championship rings at the after party, and in support of Dan’s claims to Head East’s legendary status and staying power, the listeners of WLUP (the Loop) in Chicago once again voted “There’s Never Been Any Reason” as one of the top 500 rock and roll songs of all time at #364.
